WorkCover is currently investigating a construction site in Sydney, where 400 workers may have been exposed to asbestos.

Asbestos is a mineral found in nature that poses several health risks for those exposed to it. When intact, the mineral rarely causes any harm, but when it is broken apart, asbestos fibers become airborne and when breathed in, leading to diseases such as mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a cancer of the lung, heart and chest cavities. It can take up to 50 years for mesothelioma to manifest, making it extremely difficult to both diagnose and treat. Although there are several treatments for it, including chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, there is currently no cure for it.

According to Brian Parker, the New South Wales secretary of the Construction Forestry Mining Energy Union, asbestos was found throughout the Museum of Contemporary Art building during a construction project. The contractor of the project, Watpac Constructions, should have known about the presence and the risk to the workers.

The majority of mesothelioma victims were exposed to asbestos at work and may not have even been aware of it. They may not have been given the proper safety gear or may not have even been told there was asbestos at a work site. Although time can’t be erased, mesothelioma victims can seek justice for their pain and suffering. Victims and loved ones should turn to a top mesothelioma lawyer right away to protect their rights and fight for their due compensation.

As a victim of mesothelioma, you and your loved ones may be entitled to thousands or even millions of dollars in money damages and medical care. Mesothelioma attorneys do whatever it takes to ensure that you obtain the maximum possible compensation and will make sure those responsible for your disease are held accountable. Mesothelioma lawyers will investigate your work history and those to blame will be fined and held liable for your disease.

Time is of the essence when battling mesothelioma. Don’t waste another second and contact an acclaimed mesothelioma attorney near you to file a claim and fight for your rights.
