The Canadian Society for Asbestos Victims (CanSAV) group is scheduled to hold a second information session in Parksville next week.

CanSAV offers support to asbestos victims and their families, provides education on asbestos illnesses, as well as offers referral services to those suffering from asbestos-related diseases, such as mesothelioma cancer.

According to WorkSafe BC, asbestos-related illness are the leading cause of workplace death in B.C. Approximately 1,500 people are expected to die of mesothelioma and other diseases in B.C. over the next five years.

Mesothelioma is perhaps the worst of all the asbestos-related illnesses. It targets the lining of the lungs, heart and chest cavities and is one of the most difficult cancers to both diagnose and treat. The cancer itself can take up to 50 years to manifest, and by the time most victims realize they are sick, it is too late to seek medical treatment. Although certain treatments are available for mesothelioma, like surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, there is currently no cure for it.

Many mesothelioma and other asbestos-disease victims never receive the medical care they deserve, and the CanSAV is dedicated to ensuring they do. The event will include speakers from Worksafe BC, the Vancouver Island Health Authority, Oceanside Hospice Society and a U.S. lawyer specializing in asbestos bankruptcy trusts. The event will be held on Tuesday, November 15, at the Parksville Legion at 146 Hirst Avenue.

Although the use of asbestos is almost entirely banned in Canada, the country is among the world’s leading asbestos exporters, and thousands of innocent people die of the disease yearly. Even in the United States, which completely bans the use of asbestos, thousands of people are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year. If you or a loved one are struggling with the disease, turn to a leading mesothelioma lawyer right away. You may be entitled to thousands, if not millions of dollars in compensation for your pain and suffering, and your mesothelioma attorney will see to it that you obtain your rightful benefits.

Mesothelioma lawyers will also ensure that those responsible for exposing you to asbestos are held accountable for their actions. Contact a skilled team of mesothelioma attorneys right away to file a claim.
