The Finance Minister for Northern Ireland has announced a new legislation that will allow residents who are suffering from the asbestos-related condition pleural plaques to claim compensation for their pain and suffering. The legislation will go into effect on December 14.

The law states that asymptomatic asbestos-related pleural plaque victims as well as those who suffer from other asbestos-related conditions are entitled to seek damages for personal injury. The new legislation overturns a previous House of Lords ruling in 2007 which stated that asbestos victims could not claim compensation in these cases.

Pleural plaques are tiny areas of fibrosis found within the lung membranes caused by asbestos exposure. But not only can asbestos exposure cause this disease, but it can also lead to one of the worst forms of cancer possible – mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma affects the lining of the lungs, heart and chest cavities. It is difficult to both diagnose and treat because symptoms don’t always manifest and the cancer itself can take up to 50 years to develop.

Although there are several treatments for mesothelioma, such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, there is sadly no cure for the cancer as of yet. Luckily though, victims can fight for their rights and obtain damages for their pain and suffering.

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or have been exposed to asbestos, contact a mesothelioma lawyer as soon as possible for assistance. Mesothelioma attorneys do whatever it takes to make sure you receive the thousands, or even millions of dollars you are rightfully entitled to due to your asbestos exposure. They will fight for your rights and make sure that your case ends with the best possible outcome.

With the help of an acclaimed team of mesothelioma lawyers, you and your loved ones will have justice for your pain and suffering. Most mesothelioma victims were exposed to asbestos at work, either because their employer did not inform them of the presence of the mineral or because they did not provide workers with adequate safety gear. Your lawyer will make sure those who are responsible for your disease are held accountable for their actions.
