UNITED KINGDOM – Prince William and Kate Middleton have chosen a new home, but the happy couple won’t be able to move in just yet.

The pair have chosen Princess Margaret’s old home as their permanent abode at Kensington Palace, but cannot move in for two years due to the extensive amount of repairs needed for the space – including removing large sections of asbestos.

Right now, William and Kate share a smaller property in the palace, called Nottingham Cottage, but it is expected to be turned over to Prince Harry. The new apartment won’t be available until at least the middle of 2013.

Asbestos is a type of mineral commonly found in nature. When left intact, it generally poses no threat, but when its fibers become loose, they can be breathed in by victims, leading to a slew of terrible diseases, such as mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that affects the lungs, heart and chest cavities. Although there are treatments for it, such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, there is currently no cure for mesothelioma. Sadly, many mesothelioma cases go undiagnosed because it can take up to 50 years for the cancer to manifest, and when it does, symptoms don’t always appear.

There is only a small time period following the development of mesothelioma to seek treatment. Patients have between 12 and 18 months to hope for success. Unfortunately, many patients can’t afford the treatment they need but there is help available right now to all mesothelioma victims.
